The background to this initiative is that Kiwanuka Kituuka (Name as used on Facebook) discovered that there were many companies outside Uganda that feature on Facebook, and that many actually have not had opportunity to have their products feature on Uganda market though they would love to have then there. It is against that background that I interested some of them in an innovation in form of a One Stop Shopping Centre in Kampala which would mean that they do not have to get representatives in Uganda. All that needs to be done is to see the initiative a reality so that at the end of the day, the products by various companies mostly from India and China can find their way in Uganda market. It is interesting to learn that actually some of them are interested in eventually producing the products in Uganda. I have also been told of another investor who is already in Uganda market who would love to have a Supermarket in the One Stop Shopping Centre if it eventually opens.

THE PROBLEM BEING ADDRESSED

1. Business undertakings that are interested in Uganda market, but have not got their goods/products and services into Uganda.

2. Prospect investors who would like to venture into Uganda but have not experimented on the demand of their goods in Uganda.

3. Products available out of Uganda that Ugandan consumers would be interested in if they were readily available on Uganda market.

SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM

Opening a: One Stop Shopping Center in Kampala - Uganda.

OBJECTIVES OF ONE STOP SHOPPING CENTER UGANDA.

1. To attract products by various producers/manufacturers from outside Uganda into a One Stop Shopping Center where wholesalers, retailers and final consumers will access/buy them with ease.

2. To give Uganda consumers/users increased choice of variety of goods/products to choose from.

3. To give prospect investors in product manufacturing opportunity to experiment with the Uganda market before installing product processing/manufacturing locally.

4. To attract/pool financial resources to back up the Uganda One Stop Shopping Center.

5. To promote business undertakings between Uganda and countries where stocked products are manufactured.

6. To do away with the need of opening agencies /branches by producers of stocked goods because it is an expensive undertaking.

7. To promote the spirit of brotherhood among different producers of goods in the undertaking who will agree on strategies on a regular basis.

THE LOGIC BEHIND A ONE STOP SHOPPING CENTER IN KAMPALA – UGANDA AND THE CHALLENGE.

A One Stop Shopping Center in Kampala - Uganda will be a location within Kampala City the capital of Uganda which will be the nucleus business center where products of non – Uganda companies will be clustered or brought together so that in the end we have one area where a prospect client may do the shopping of much of he/she may need, hence the force behind its feasibility. The idea is to provide convenient and efficient service and also to create the opportunity for the aggregated players currently not on Uganda market easily to clients and customers.

The biggest challenge of the One Stop Business Center in Kampala is: Who is to provide the much needed financial services that will eventually help the take off stage of the undertaking. This is against the belief that such a financial undertaking will take on the Chair of the innovation and will get the ball rolling on calling for meetings with the potential players in the anticipated One Stop Shopping Center initiative.

Areas that need to be studied are among others:

i. The feasibility of individual products given the costs of ferrying them into Uganda and the various charges to finally sell them in the center.

ii. How to be able to meet the quality specifications so that the products are not dumped on Uganda market but meet the quality and other necessary specifications.

iii. How to handle the management of the business; whether some suppliers will be able to wait for the sales to be made and get the payment or whichever other terms.

iv. How to choose the people who will be in the day today running of the undertaking.

v. Any other business issues that may crop up.
